Sunil Narine has announced his retirement from international cricket, concluding an illustrious eight-year career. His last appearance for the West Indies was in a T20I match in August 2019.

Taking to Instagram, Narine expressed, “I realize it has been over four years since my last game for the West Indies, but today I am officially announcing my retirement from international cricket. While I may not be one for public declarations, there are a few individuals who have provided me unwavering support throughout my journey, helping me achieve my dream of representing the West Indies.

Narine first gained prominence during the now-defunct Champions League T20 while playing for Trinidad & Tobago in 2011, subsequently making his international debut in an ODI in December of the same year. He featured in a total of 122 international matches, including six Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is. His standout performance came during the 2012 T20 World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in the West Indies’ victory, securing nine wickets in the competition. He participated in just one more edition of the T20 World Cup in 2014.

Since 2012, Narine has been a mainstay in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad and has become a familiar figure in T20 leagues around the world, now a routine part of his professional life. He continues to represent the Knight Riders franchise in various leagues, including the IPL, the International League T20 in Abu Dhabi, the Caribbean Premier League with Trinbago, and Major League Cricket with Los Angeles. Additionally, he competes in the Hundred men’s competition with Oval Invincibles, along with featuring in the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and Bangladesh Premier League.

In 2014, Narine faced scrutiny for his bowling action, leading to his withdrawal from the ODI World Cup the following year. This significantly impacted his sporadic international appearances.

At the age of 35, Narine now sets his sights on domestic accolades.I hold a special place in my heart for representing Trinidad & Tobago, my homeland, and clinching the Super50 Cup title would be the perfect way to bid farewell.”

The ongoing Super50 Cup marks Narine’s final foray into List A cricket.
