The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai, UAE. This marks the first time the IPL auction will be held outside India. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, November 26 has been established as the deadline for franchises to submit their lists of retained players.
Reports indicate that each team will have a salary purse of Rs 100 crore for the IPL 2024 auction, a Rs 5 crore increase from the IPL 2023 players’ auction.
The IPL 2024 auction will coincide with the India vs South Africa 2nd ODI at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Notably, premier Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is poised to make a return to the IPL, expressing his desire to play in the upcoming season.
In an intriguing trade, Romario Shepherd has moved from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) trading window ahead of the TATA IPL 2024. Shepherd, who has featured in 4 IPL matches representing LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad, was traded to MI for his existing fee of INR 50 Lakh.
Teams have been informed of an extension to the player retention deadline, now set for November 26, a deviation from the customary November 15 cutoff. This extension allows franchises more time to finalize their player retention strategies for the upcoming season.
Crucially, all 10 IPL teams will now have a purse of Rs 100 crore, a notable increase from the previous auction’s Rs 95 crore. This boost provides teams with greater financial flexibility in their preparations for the upcoming auction.
Mumbai Indians initiated the trading ahead of the 2024 season. In a cash deal worth INR 50 lakh, Mumbai acquired West Indies’ fast-bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd from the Lucknow Super Giants. Known for his proficiency in both bowling and batting, the 28-year-old Shepherd boasts an impressive T20I record with 301 runs in 31 matches at an average of 37.62 and a strike rate of 153.57. Mumbai Indians will be Shepherd’s third IPL franchise, having previously played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022 and the Lucknow Super Giants in 2023.
In the IPL 2023 season, Mumbai Indians secured fourth place in the points table with eight wins in 14 matches. Their campaign concluded with a defeat to the Gujarat Titans in the second eliminator, following a victory over the Lucknow Super Giants in the first.
